With strongman events season just around the corner, strongman training is now moving at full speed for the Stoltman's. Powered by Myvegan supplements, it’s clear the brothers haven’t lost any strength since they made the swap. And if you still need convincing, you won’t after seeing Tom and Luke take on this workout.
Deadlift sensei Dan Managi — or Mr Managi as he’s known to Tom-san — is in town to help the Stoltman's nail their deadlift technique. He’s made the trip to get a view of where the brothers are as they enter the final 5-6 weeks before Britain’s Strongest Man and the Arnold Strongman Classic.
The Strongman Session
Deadlifts
It wouldn’t be a strongman session without heavy deadlifts. Very heavy deadlifts.
We also see the brothers wearing a suit during the session. Dan Managi took the time to talk through what it does.
“A suit wants to be stood up, so when you get to the bottom of a bar, it’s really compressed, so the suit just gives you a bit of pop. It keeps your hips tight and keeps everything warm.”Basically, as the suit gets tighter it also gets more uncomfortable, but that also makes lifting easier.
And as the suit is allowed in competition, there’s no point not using it.
You wouldn’t want to borrow one of the Stoltmans’ suits though, as the only way they wash them is in their own sweat... nice.
Time to get started
In terms of weight, Tom and Luke started off with what they probably consider light. 90kg. Easy. They followed that with 140kg, 190kg, 240kg, and made their way up to 270kg.
Soon they had 280kg under their belt, before deciding to push on for 300kg.
Luke explained that they’ve struggled with endurance before, so a major focus of their training is pushing themselves to complete as many reps as possible. Even at 300kg. That's pretty impressive. If you're struggling to put that into perspective, let me help. An average grizzly bear weighs 300kg. Yes, the grizzly bear killing machine - the Stoltmans could deadlift one. Now I'm left wondering who I think would win in a fight...
Luke went up first, targeting eight reps. Despite struggling toward the end, he completed all of them. Tom was up next and managed an astounding 12 reps.
And if that still wasn’t enough, they added on yet more weight.
320kg for one rep. The boys nailed it. No surprise there.
The rest of the strongman workout
- Box jumps
- Face down, chest supported row
- Banded straight arm, single arm pull down
- Chest supported; plate loaded row
- Hollow body holds

It’s difficult to keep focus on the full video without experiencing second-hand exhaustion watching the brothers take on these deadlifts. Worth it though. And if that isn’t enough, stick around to see the World’s Strongest Man in a pair of hot pink crocs. He rocked them.
