Eddie Hall recently took to Instagram to reveal the contents of his gym bag, and it made for some interesting viewing. As a nosey person, I was engrossed. From the protein shaker to the Vaseline, I was hooked throughout. Although it’s fair to say it was far too full. Eddie definitely needs a bigger gym bag.

What's in the bag?

Protein Shaker

Whether you go for a bougie metal shaker or settle for the simple plastic option, no gym bag is complete without a shaker. Fill it with water to stay hydrated during your workout, and top it up with protein for your post-workout shake. Sorted.

Clear Whey Isolate

Eddie prefers a juicy shake. Not only because it’s lighter on the stomach after a big workout, but also because it's a higher quality protein as the protein is hydrolysed.

Tape Measure

According to Eddie a tape measure is a vital piece of gym equipment.

“Us men like to measure things when we’re in the gym, around other alpha males. Then we can settle things with a tape measure... measure our weapons and go about our day.”

Spare Pair of Pants & Socks

I’ll just skip over the part where Eddie mentions why he keeps these in his gym bag.

If you have full control of yourself, you can most likely skip this step. But as far as Eddie’s concerned they’re a necessity. It sounds like he’s speaking from experience...

“A person who lifts very heavy weights needs to carry a spare pair of pants.”

Protein Cookie

You never know when hunger will strike, so it’s important to always be prepared. If you can’t always keep a protein bar in your back pocket, the next best option is in your gym bag.

ZMA

For those not in the know, ZMA is a mix of zinc, magnesium and vitamin B6. These minerals play an important role in your overall health and wellbeing, and are vital if you spend as much time in the gym as Eddie.

Liquid Chalk

To deadlift up to half a tonne, you’ve got to make sure your grip is up to scratch. That's where liquid chalk comes in. Maintain your grip without the mess of chalk powder.

Spiky Ball or Recovery Stick

You never know when injury will strike, and Eddie needs the correct equipment to roll out any knots and get straight back to it. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.

Golf Ball

It may seem random, but it does in fact make a lot of sense. Golf balls are the perfect size to reach those pesky muscle knots and roll them out. Nothing gets in the way of The Beast's session.

Take Home Message

Unsurprisingly Eddie Hall has a gym bag that is overflowing with goodies. But for those of you who don’t need spare socks and two different recovery tools to roll out your injuries, Eddie also has some other recommendations.

The must-haves for your gym bag should be protein and any straps to support your lifts. Beyond that it’s entirely up to you what you take to the gym. A tape measure to compare biceps size with your gym buddies is obviously a must. But remember it’s what inside that counts.
