The aim of the new regulation is to improve allergen information by presenting the prescribed allergens in plain English, creating a consistent and easily understood format across food labels that makes it easier for consumers to read and understand.

There will be some further adjustments relating to additives and processing aids derived from allergenic materials. Noting that wheat-derived ingredients are often used as an additive in flavours, so in some cases where the flavour supplier cannot confirm the level/existence of gluten from a wheat-derived ingredient, we have chosen to state Contains wheat, gluten” to ensure we protect our consumers as much as possible.
